Polina Masevnina (1997, Ryazan, Russia ) is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in the Czech Republic who channels her artistic voice through the versatile realm of photography, employing a diverse range of visual capturing techniques. Her artistic practice embarks on a profound exploration of self, identity, and the complexities of human connections.Unraveling themes such as unconditional love, burning passion, past romantic entanglements, and the harsh realities of sexual and verbal abuse, Polina's work offers an unfiltered glimpse into the intricacies of personal experience. Her lens further delves into the dynamics of relationships, exposing the web of dependency and co-dependency that weaves through the tapestry of love and addiction, using the camera and the photographic encounter to speak towards, penetrate, and critique our lived experience. At the core of her artistic expression lies a tumultuous conflict, one that hinges on the contrast between the external and the internal, the personal and the political. It is in this tension that Polina finds her most poignant artistic revelations.
Additionally, Polina's artistic narrative embarks on a compelling exploration of the political body. She navigates the intricate terrain of emigration, the eternal quest for a sense of home, the emotions tied to presence and absence, and the quest for self-identification within the shifting landscape of her homeland's political dynamics. She explores the concept of "home" within the context of power and stigma, revealing the intricate threads that tie the personal to the political.
Polina's artistic roots extend deeply into the New East culture, evoking memories of her formative years spent in Russia. This journey prompts her to ponder questions of nationality and belonging within the post-colonial discourse. Her work boldly challenges the established image of masculinity and confronts the enduring taboos surrounding sexuality in her homeland.Polina's artistic offerings thrive at the intersection of intuition and research, blending spoken word with abstract imagery, photography with poetry. Her portfolio resonates with elements of installation and performance, and the process of visual capturing incorporates multiple video and photo cameras. This approach emphasizes the sensation of being recorded and watched, inviting viewers to embark on a captivating journey through multifaceted landscapes of identity, politics, and self-discovery.
