In the performative part I am reacting to the war in Ukraine from my personal perspective of belonging to the state that causes mindless aggression. By washing away invisible shame from my body, I reveal my personal tragedy of national identity loss.
I want to skin myself. By intense action of washing my arms from hands to elbows I am visualising the statement “ hands drenched in blood “.
I sit on the concrete floor, facing the audience, the bed is by my side. my eyes are facing down; in the shame you are not able to look into someone’s eyes. I put my hands into the jar with water, wash my face, take a breath. slowly in the silence I start washing my body. from hands to elbows, from chest to neck, from hips to belly.
The object represents safe space. Bed as manifesto. We sleep, cry, fight, make out in bed. Bed as political or apolitical body.
